This paradox has puzzled believers for centuries. After all, when we think of the word \u201cgood,\u201d we tend to think of things that are easy, comfortable, or morally right. But Good Friday doesn\u2019t fit that description.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The term “Good Friday” likely originated in the 1200s, with \u201cgood\u201d meaning \u201choly\u201d or \u201cof religious significance,\u201d rather than \u201cpleasant\u201d or \u201ceasy.\u201d And though the events we remember on this day may seem anything but pleasant, there is a depth to the word \u201cgood\u201d that goes far beyond what we often associate with the word. The cross defies understanding, yet it is the source of our greatest good.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When Good Doesn\u2019t Look Easy<\/b><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Think about it. It doesn\u2019t make sense that Christ\u2014the Son of God\u2014would leave behind His glory in heaven, become fully human, live as a humble carpenter, and walk among us, healing, teaching, loving, and embracing those around Him, only to be rejected, despised, and ultimately killed. It doesn\u2019t make sense that the perfect, sinless Savior would endure betrayal, be falsely accused, beaten, tortured, and left to die on a cross. But just like the crucifixion, which seemed anything but \u201cgood\u201d in the moment, God\u2019s goodness in our lives doesn\u2019t always look like how we expect. Sometimes, it\u2019s hidden in the most unlikely places\u2014behind suffering, sacrifice, and even defeat.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And here\u2019s the key: <\/span>good<\/span><\/i> doesn\u2019t mean \u201ceasy.\u201d It doesn\u2019t mean \u201cwithout tension.\u201d In fact, Good Friday is all about embracing the tension. At Grace, we often say \u201cGood is ahead\u201d\u2014meaning, there is <\/span>more<\/span><\/i> than<\/span><\/i> this<\/span><\/i>, beyond the immediate struggle or pain. And Good Friday is the same. It\u2019s a reminder that there is more than the agony, more than the death, more than the darkness.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jesus knew this. Hebrews 12:2 says <\/span>\u201cFor the joy set before Him, He endured the cross\u2026\u201d <\/span><\/i>And that joy\u2014His resurrection, our redemption\u2014is why we call this Friday \u201cGood.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

God\u2019s plan didn\u2019t end at the cross. <\/b>It didn\u2019t end with Good Friday. There is <\/span>more than this<\/span><\/i> Friday. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A Shared Sorrow<\/strong><\/h3>\n

“Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed.”<\/span><\/i> \u2014 <\/span>Isaiah 53:4-5<\/b><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>At Grace, we don\u2019t just remember Good Friday\u2014we experience it. This day is unlike any other, and we believe it\u2019s important to enter into its weight with intention. Each year, we create a space of shared sorrow and sacred remembrance, designed to help you step outside your comfort zone and engage deeply. Through a creative and immersive walkthrough experience, you\u2019ll have the opportunity to reflect personally, pray, confess, and lament. It may feel uncomfortable at times, but the sacrifice of Jesus should unsettle us\u2014it\u2019s a reminder of the depth of His love and the cost of our redemption. We set aside the entire day to come together to mourn and reflect on the gravity of Christ\u2019s sacrifice. It\u2019s unlike anything else we do at Grace because the sacrifice of Jesus is unlike anything else.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We must embrace the tension of <\/b>all that was lost<\/i><\/b> before we can understand <\/b>all that was gained<\/i><\/b>.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Promise Of More\u00a0 <\/b><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Without the cross, there is no resurrection. Without Good Friday, there is no Easter. We can\u2019t understand the power and goodness of His resurrection without first understanding the depth and agony of His sacrifice. Good Friday reminds us that even in the face of death, there is hope. It might not make sense, but that\u2019s exactly the point. It\u2019s in the paradox, in the suffering, in the sacrifice of Jesus, that we begin to glimpse the true meaning of \u201cgood.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the tension of Good Friday, we uncover a good that surpasses our understanding\u2014a good that promises there is always more than this, even in the darkest moments.<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Romans 8:18 says<\/span>, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”<\/span><\/i> And for the believer, every day can be lived with the assurance that, no matter the struggle, \u201c<\/span>good<\/b> is ahead.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
