CALL TO WORSHIP<\/strong>
\nChurch, today we light the third candle of the Advent season which is the candle of joy.<\/span>
\nJohn 1:14 declares \u201cThe Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us\u201d which assures us that God has entered into human history through the incarnation of the Son. The season of Advent, a season of waiting, is designed to cultivate our awareness of God\u2019s actions\u2014past, present, and future. In Advent we heighten our anticipation for the ultimate fulfillment of all Old Testament promises, when the wolf will lie down with the lamb, death will be swallowed up, and every tear will be wiped away. In this way Advent highlights for us the larger story of God\u2019s redemptive plan. Though Christ has come, not all things have reached completion. While we remember Israel\u2019s waiting and hoping and we give thanks for Christ\u2019s birth, we also eagerly anticipate His second coming at the end of time.<\/span>
\nWith great hope and joy, we read these words together:<\/span>
\nO Morning Star,<\/span><\/i>
\nsplendor of light eternal and sun of righteousness:<\/span><\/i>
\nCome and enlighten those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death.<\/span><\/i>
\nCome, Lord Jesus<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

CALL TO CONFESSION<\/strong>
\nOur time of confession this week focuses on our Advent theme of Joy.<\/span>
\nThe great preacher, Charles Spurgeon once said:\u00a0<\/span>\u201cNothing teaches us about the preciousness of our Creator as\u00a0<\/span><\/i>much as when we learn the emptiness of everything else.<\/span><\/i>\u201d<\/span>
\nOur true and only source of Joy comes from knowing and being\u00a0<\/span>known by Jesus. No matter how much or how little processions we\u00a0<\/span>own or success we experience. Nothing can compare to the\u00a0<\/span>unshakable love and grace that He provides.<\/span>
\n <\/p>\n

CONFESSION<\/strong>
\nOur time of confession this week focuses on our Advent Theme of Joy.<\/span>
\nGod of salvation, in Christ you have done great things\u2014\u00a0<\/b>
\nour hearts are filled with joy.<\/b>
\nBy your power you lifted us out of the wasteland of sin<\/b>
\nand brought us with joy and laughter into your kingdom.\u00a0<\/b>
\nSalvation is your gift to us.<\/b>
\nBut we confess that often we try to replace <\/b>
\nyour gift with our own efforts.\u00a0<\/b>
\nWe try to complete what is already perfect;<\/b>
\nwe try to add to what is already full;<\/b>
\nwe try to earn what we already have.<\/b>
\nForgive us for our foolishness.<\/b>
\nHelp us to focus on your grace.<\/b>
\nHelp us to live grateful lives in return.\u00a0<\/b>
\nFor Jesus\u2019 sake alone,\u00a0<\/b>
\nAmen.<\/b>
