Week 1

  1. When you feel overwhelmed, what’s the first thing you usually run to — and is it helping?
  2. David calls God “the rock that is higher than I” (v. 2) — what would it look like this week to go to God first instead of trying to figure it out on your own?
  3. Can you share a time God was faithful to you in a hard season, and how does remembering that help you trust Him now?

Week 2

  1. What’s one fear or worry you’ve been carrying lately that’s hard to let go of?
  2. God says “Be still, and know that I am God” (v. 10) what’s one practical way you could practice being still before God this week?
  3. When you’re anxious, do you tend to run to God or away from Him, and what helps you turn back toward worship?

Week 3

  1. What’s a lie you tend to believe about yourself, your situation, or God — and what does Scripture say instead?
  2. The psalmist says “I have chosen the way of faithfulness” (v. 30) — what’s one area of your life where you need to choose God’s truth over your feelings this week?
  3. Is there a verse or truth from the Bible you could keep in front of you this week to fight back when discouragement hits?

Week 4

  1. Have you ever felt deeply sad but couldn’t explain why — and what did you do with that feeling?
  2. What’s the difference between complaining about God and bringing your pain to God?
  3. The psalmist tells his own soul, “Put your hope in God” (v. 5) — how can this group help you hold onto hope when life feels heavy?

Week 5

  1. Why is it so hard to be honest with God about our sin instead of hiding it or minimizing it?
  2. David asks God to “restore the joy of your salvation” (v. 12) — is there something you need to confess to God so you can experience that restored joy?
  3. What’s the difference between guilt that keeps you stuck and conviction that moves you toward God?

Week 6

  1. What are two or three things God has done for you that you can thank Him for right now?
  2. God “does not treat us as our sins deserve” (v. 10) — how does really believing that change the way you walk through a hard day?
  3. Of the blessings listed in this psalm — forgiveness, healing, redemption, love, compassion, renewal — which one do you need most right now?

Week 7

  1. What’s one thing about your future that feels uncertain right now, and how is it affecting you?
  2. David says the “one thing” he wants is to be in God’s presence (v. 4) — what would it look like for you to make time with God your top priority this week?
  3. “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart” (v. 14) — what does it look like to actively wait on God instead of just worrying or doing nothing?
